At approximately 3:30 p.m., Pittsburgh Police from Zone 5, Pittsburgh Fire, and Pittsburgh EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Frankstown Avenue for reports of a three-vehicle collision.
While en route officers were provided an update from dispatch that the driver—an adult male—of the initial vehicle in the collision appeared to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his lower torso and legs.
A bystander rendered aid to the victim, until officers arrived. Officers then applied a tourniquet and bandages until medics arrived at the scene. Pittsburgh EMS transported the victim in critical condition to an area hospital. He was immediately taken into surgery.
The victim was the sole occupant of his vehicle. No other injuries were reported to the occupants of the two other vehicles.
No ShotSpotter alerts were registered in the area. The victim’s vehicle did sustain bullet damage, but detectives are still working through where the shooting took place.
The Mobile Crime Unit responded to process all available evidence.
Violent Crime Unit detectives are leading an active and ongoing investigation.
