At approximately 4:00 p.m., Pittsburgh Fire responded to the 300 block of Taylor Street in the city’s Bloomfield neighborhood for reports of a residential structure fire.
Firefighters arrived at the scene of the one-alarm fire and found smoke showing from both the first and second floors.
An adult female occupant of the residence was located, trapped, on a second-floor balcony in the rear of the structure with no access to the ground. Firefighters were able to safely rescue her by extending a ladder and aiding her in her decent.
The female was treated at the scene by Pittsburgh EMS for smoke inhalation and declined any further medical care.
A firefighter sustained a minor hand injury and was treated by Pittsburgh EMS at the scene before returning to the job.
The damage was localized to the single structure and no other injuries were reported.
While the exact cause remains under investigation, the initial investigation indicates the fire originated in the first-floor dining room from a failure of an electrical appliance.
