At approximately 3:00 p.m., Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched to Monticello Street at North Murtland Street in the city’s Homewood West neighborhood for reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

Arriving responders located a 12-year-old male victim and an adult female victim on the sidewalk of Monticello Street, adjacent to Westinghouse Academy.

The male child sustained traumatic injuries to his lower extremities and was transported by Pittsburgh EMS in critical condition to UPMC Children’s Hospital, where he was immediately taken into surgery.

The adult female victim was transported by Pittsburgh EMS in stable condition, where she is still being evaluated.

The adult female driver stayed on the scene and was cooperating with officers.

The preliminary investigation indicates the driver was travelling southbound on North Murtland Street when she made a right turn onto Monticello Street. It appears she then continued tracking to the right, causing her to jump the curb and strike the pedestrians on the sidewalk.

Alcohol intoxication is a potential factor in the collision.

Collision Investigation Unit detectives responded to the scene and are reviewing all available evidence, including area camera footage and witness statements.

The investigation is ongoing.
