Just before 2:30 a.m., Pittsburgh Police from Zone 2 were called to Vine Street at Fifth Avenue in the Bluff neighborhood for reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

Arriving responders located an adult male victim in the roadway. He had sustained a significant head injury. The victim was transported to an area hospital by Pittsburgh EMS in critical condition. The victim unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital a few hours later.

Witnesses at the scene described to officers that the adult male driver of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene on foot after the collision. Bystanders restrained him until police arrived.

Collision Investigation Unit detectives arrived to process evidence at the scene, including reviewing all available video footage. The initial investigation indicates alcohol appears to have been a factor in the collision.

The male actor was transported to the Allegheny County Jail. Charges are forthcoming.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Office of the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.

In the upcoming weeks, the City's Vision Zero Fatal Crash Response Team, which includes the Pittsburgh Police Collision Investigation Unit, will complete a site visit to evaluate potential crash factors. Following the site visit, additional updates will be made available on the Vision Zero Working Group's Engage Page.
