Police Arrest Male After Downtown Stabbing Incident

At 1:14 p.m., Pittsburgh Police from the Downtown Public Safety Center were dispatched to the 600 block of Liberty Avenue for reports of a stabbing.

Arriving officers located an adult male victim who had sustained a stab wound to his ribs. He was consious, alert, and speaking with officers and medics. The victim was transported by Pittsburgh EMS to a local hospital in stable condition.

The victim—a convenience store employee—and other witnesses stated to officers that the adult male actor was in the business and attempted to steal merchandise. The victim tried to stop the actor, the pair struggled, and then the actor stabbed the victim.

The actor then fled on foot towards the North Shore. Officers were able to utilize city cameras and track the male to the river trail near PNC Park.

He was taken into custody and initially transported to an area hospital for medical clearance. He will then be taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Charges are forthcoming.
