At approximately 1:15 a.m., the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire responded to a one-alarm structure fire in the 1600 block of Duffield Street.

Upon arrival, crews found the first floor of the residence fully engulfed, with flames visible from both sides of the structure. The fire is believed to have originated in the kitchen before spreading to the rear porch.

All three residents were already outside and safe when crews arrived. As a precaution, neighboring homes were temporarily evacuated. One firefighter was transported to the hospital with a minor knee injury and has since been released.

Firefighters located a dog on the third floor and safely evacuated it. The dog was transported to an emergency vet, where it’s reported to be in stable condition.

The Red Cross responded to provide assistance.

The Fire Investigation Unit is investigating.
