Just before 3:00 p.m., Pittsburgh Fire responded to the 800 block of Progress Street, between Chesbro Street and Bolin Way, on the North Shore for reports of smoke and fire coming from a former church building.

The fire was increased to two-alarms shortly after crews arrived. There was no external collapse of the structure, but a portion of the internal vaulted sanctuary did give way.

Fire Investigation Unit detectives were able to determine that the fire started near the center of the structure, on the first floor. The exact cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

The building owner was contacted and arrived to the scene.

No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.
