VCU Detectives Make Firearms Arrest in Spring Garden

Summary:

Violence Prevention Unit detectives continue with proactive patrols in neighborhoods around the city. On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, detectives were in the area of Rhine Street and Buente Street when they observed a male with a heavy, weighted object in his pocket, believed to be a firearm.

The male was known to police to be a person not to possess. When detectives approached him and identified themselves as Pittsburgh Police, the male fled on foot. Following a short pursuit, he was detained and the object in his pocket was confirmed to be a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

James Kendrick, 29, of Turtle Creek, PA, was interviewed at police headquarters and arrested.

He is charged with Possession of a Firearm with an Altered Manufacturer's Number, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot, and Prohibited Acts.

Kendrick was transported to Allegheny County Jail.
