Violence Prevention Unit and Narcotics Detectives Make Gun Arrest in N

Just before 9:30 p.m. on October 16 2024, Violence Prevention Unit officers and Narcotics detectives were working in North Homewood due to a recent uptick in violence in the area, when they recognized a known male who is a person not to possess a weapon.

When detectives approached the male to ask questions, he began arguing with them and turned his body away from them when asked what he had on his right side. He was informed he was going to be searched for weapons. Detectives recovered a stolen gun during their search. 

Zyjuan Newton, 18, was arrested at Sterrett Street and Hermitage Street and charged with Persons not to Possess, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Receiving Stolen Property, Resisting Arrest and Prohibited Acts.

He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
