UPDATE: Police, Fire, and EMS Respond to Shooting in the Strip

UPDATE: William Samuels, 55, has been charged with a number of felony and misdemeanor offenses, including Criminal Attempted Homicide, Terroristic Threats, and Simple Assault.

At approximately 2:15 a.m., Pittsburgh Police from Zone 2 were dispatched to the 1100 block of Penn Avenue in the Strip District for reports of a man brandishing a weapon and threatening individuals inside the establishment.
While officers were en route, the call was updated to say that a man had been shot.
Arriving officers located an adult male victim inside the building with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and torso. He was transported by Pittsburgh EMS to a local hospital and taken immediately into surgery. At the time of this writing, he remains in critical condition.
An adult male, believed to be the suspect, was taken into custody at the scene. He was experiencing some type of medical distress and was transported to an area hospital for further evaluation before he is released to the Allegheny County Jail.
The Mobile Crime Unit was called to process evidence at the scene, including a recovered firearm and shell casings.
Violent Crime Unit detectives are investigating.
At this time, there is not believed to be any further risk to the public.
