Date: June 7, 2024 Incident Type: Location: Zone 5 Summary:
Just after 2:45 a.m. Pittsburgh Police from Zone 5 responded to Wendy's in the 5400 block of Baum Blvd. for reports of an attempted armed robbery in progress.
Arriving officers made contact with an employee who reported that he was taking out the trash when he saw two males emerge from the bushes and he believed they were waiting for him to re-enter the building so they could follow him inside. The employee ran to the first entrance to get back inside, but it was locked, so he banged on the window for another employee to let him in and they secured the all of the entrances for their safety.
At this same time, the two suspects ran around the building attempting to get in, but were unable to gain access so they fled the area on foot.
The employee reported one of the males was possibly carrying an AR-15-type pistol.
Multiple units searched the area for the suspects, but were unable to locate them. The investigation is ongoing.
