Pittsburgh Police Investigate Thefts from Vehicles Involving Air Bags

Published on August 01, 2024

Date: August 1, 2024
Incident Type: Theft from vehicle
Location: Zone 4/5
Summary:

Pittsburgh Police are investigating ten reports of airbags stolen from vehicles in Zones 4 and 5 over the past two nights.

A total of four airbags were stolen from certain Honda Civic model years in the Bloomfield area, while another six were taken from between the Shadyside and Point Breeze neighborhoods.

Police encourage owners to make sure their vehicle doors are locked and the windows are closed. Unfortunately, in most of these recent incidents, the driver’s side windows were broken by thieves who were on intent reaching the steering column to take driver's side airbag systems. With that in mind, it may also be helpful to purchase a steering wheel locking device - known as an anti-theft club - as an additional deterrent.

It is believed this rash of thefts is connected and police are asking anyone with information or possible video to contact Zone 4 at (412) 422-6520 or Zone 5 at (412) 665-3605.
