Police Arrest Three in Connection With Vehicle Thefts and Robberies

On May 28, 2024 Pittsburgh Police Narcotics and Vice detectives were made aware of a string of vehicle thefts overnight on May 27/28 in Pittsburgh and surrounding suburbs.
One of the vehicles had been stolen in a burglary in the Zone 6 area of the city and the actors were believed to be armed. The same individuals were also suspects in several armed home invasion robberies.
Detectives located one of the stolen vehicles, a Toyota Sienna, unoccupied on Rentz Way at Grimes Street. After a short period of time, three males were observed walking toward the vehicle.
Two of them got into the vehicle and the third was still walking toward it when detectives wearing clearly marked police vests, and with vehicle emergency lights activated, announced their presence and ordered them not to move. All three males ran in separate directions.
Following a foot pursuit by detectives, the three were taken into custody. Two firearms were recovered, one of which was reported stolen out of the City of Pittsburgh.
All three males were transported to police headquarters for questioning.
The 16-year-old and 17-year-old were arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest, Receiving Stolen Property, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Flight to Avoid Apprehension and Possession of a Firearm Under 18. The 17-year-old was released to his father and the 16-year-old was released to Juvenile Probation for detention.
Jose Rivera-Montes, 19, is charged with Resisting Arrest and Flight to Avoid Apprehension.
He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
