Pittsburgh Fire Responds to Structure Fire in East Allegheny

Summary:

Just before 8:00 a.m., Pittsburgh Fire responded to an apartment building in the 500 block of Tripoli Street in East Allegheny for reports of a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived to an active fire and heavy smoke on the first floor. The flames were quickly brought under control with the fire being contained to a single unit.

An adult female from the impacted apartment suffered first- and second-degree burns to her hands as she attempted to put out the fire. She was transported by Pittsburgh EMS to an area hospital in stable condition.

The early investigation indicates that the fire was accidental in nature and started from careless smoking in a bedroom.

Residents of the building have since been allowed back into their apartments. The Red Cross was on scene to assist with any displaced individuals.
