Just before 6 p.m. on Sept. 3, 2024, officers on patrol downtown responded to the 500 block of Penn Avenue for a parking complaint. Upon arrival, a man was yelling that an unknown male had threatened him with a gun. He identified a young male who was walking away on Penn Ave. toward Sixth Street. Another witness on scene verified his account of the incident and identified the alleged actor. The responding officer called for backup and began walking behind the male as he turned onto Sixth St. toward Fort Duquesne Blvd. Once on Fort Duquesne, the officer called out to the suspect to get his attention, telling him to "come here." When the suspect turned around, the officer told him to put his hands on his head, to which he did not comply. The suspect then took off running as the officer gave multiple verbal commands for him stop. After a short foot pursuit, the male laid down on the ground and officers placed him in custody without incident. He told police the gun was inside his backpack. Officers recovered one loaded gun and a search of the bag incident to arrest yielded an additional firearm, which was confirmed stolen out of Lower Burrell, PA. Police arrested Tymozh Toles, 18, of Pittsburgh. Toles faces multiple charges including Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Receiving Stolen Property, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Simple Assault.
