Incident Type: Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Collision
Location: Zone 1
Summary:
Just after 4:30 p.m., Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were called to the intersection of Brighton Road and Jacksonia Street along the California-Kirkbride and Central Northside border for reports of a vehicle and pedestrian collision.
Responding units located two juvenile victims—both 11-year-old females—who had been struck. One of the females was alert and conscious. She was transported in stable condition to UPMC Children’s Hospital. The other female was unresponsive; she was transported in critical condition to UPMC Children’s Hospital.
A medic unit was in the area on a separate, unrelated call and witnessed the incident take place. As a result of their location, they were able to render aid immediately to both victims.
The initial investigation indicates the driver of the vehicle, an adult female, had just made a left turn from Jacksonia onto Brighton when the juveniles attempted to cross the street.
The driver stayed on the scene and was cooperating with officers.
The Collision Investigation Unit responded to the scene to investigate.
