CITY OF PITTSBURGH PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT PREPARED FOR INCOMING INCLEMENT WEATHER

Pre-positioning resources to handle any situations

Pittsburgh, PA – In an abundance of caution due to the incoming inclement weather, the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works (DPW) will be deploying 60 trucks from 10 pm tonight until the afternoon of Thursday, December 5th. They are pre-positioning resources for rapid deployment to address known icy conditions and emergent situations. DPW will also pre-emptively close roadways at 10 pm known to be hazardous during bad winter weather.

The roadways impacted will re-open Thursday, December 5th on a case-by-case basis:

  • Capitol Avenue
  • Newett Street
  • Copperfield Street
  • South Negley Avenue
  • Suffolk Street
  • Rialto Street

Steps, bridges, and other pedestrian infrastructure will be addressed as needed, starting Thursday, December 5th at 6 am.

Impacts to the morning commute are expected to be quite minimal; however, DPW advises residents to allow extra time, especially if accumulation exceeds current predictions.

“I want to thank our hardworking crews and leadership at Public Works for their proactive approach to the current forecasts,” said Mayor Ed Gainey. “Every year, they prove just how much they care about keeping our city safe and moving, no matter what the weather throws at us.”
