CITY OF PITTSBURGH CELEBRATES REAM POOL RE-OPENING AFTER REPAIRS

Welcoming Swimmers for the 2025 Season

Pittsburgh, PA – The City of Pittsburgh today celebrated the grand reopening of Ream Pool in Mt. Washington following repairs to its cement structure and pool liner — just in time for the start of pool season across the city.

Mayor Ed Gainey was on hand to cut the ribbon alongside Councilwoman Theresa Kale-Smith, CitiParks Director Kathryn Vargas, and Department of Public Works Assistant Director and Facilities Division lead Chip Gaul, whose team — led by Project Manager Grisell Espinoza — successfully completed the repairs.

The pool, a community fixture for children, families, and seniors, had been closed for a full season due to the necessary repairs. This reopening signals a renewal of the city’s investment in its recreational facilities and a deepening of its commitment to providing safe, welcoming spaces for all Pittsburghers.

“It’s a great day for Mt. Washington and for the entire city as we celebrate the reopening of Ream Pool — a place where generations come together, make memories, learn to swim, and enjoy their summers safely,” said Mayor Gainey. “This project is a testament to the power of community partnerships and our collective ability to make our neighborhood spaces even better.”

This event also marks the official start of pool season in Pittsburgh, with pools opening their doors across the city in the coming days.
