Just after midnight, Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS and River Rescue, along with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, were dispatched to the area of the Roberto Clemente Bridge for reports of a person in the water. Upon arrival, an adult male was located in the water along the river wall. A bystander was using a tree branch to give the male something to hold onto until help arrived. River Rescue arrived on scene moments afterwards and threw the male a personal flotation device. Moments later, they secured the male on their vessel. EMS divers evaluated the male and took him to shore, where he was subsequently transported to the hospital in stable condition.
