At approximately 11:30 p.m., Pittsburgh Police from Zone 5, Pittsburgh EMS, and Pittsburgh Fire were dispatched to Bennett Street at Oakwood Street along the Homewood South and East Hills neighborhood border for reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

Upon arrival, responders located an adult male in the roadway with injuries consistent with having been struck by a vehicle. Medics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

An initial SUV had been travelling westbound on Bennett Street, toward Oakwood Street, when the vehicle hit the pedestrian. The victim had been walking in the roadway at the time of the collision. The adult male driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and was highly cooperative with police.

The SUV driver stated to officers that after the collision he exited his vehicle to go check on the victim when another vehicle travelling on Bennett Street also struck the victim.

Witness statements corroborate those of the SUV driver’s.

The driver of the second vehicle, a gray Toyota Prius, did not remain at the scene.

Collision Investigation Unit detectives responded to process evidence, including reviewing camera footage.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Office of the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.

The investigation is ongoing.
