Original post:
Just before 3:45 p.m., Pittsburgh Police from Zone 6 were dispatched to the vicinity of Middletown Road and Runnymede Street in Crafton Heights for two separate ShotSpotter alerts totaling six rounds.
While officers were en route, a call came in reporting a male with a gunshot wound.
Officers arriving in the 2600 block of Middletown Road located an unresponsive male victim in the backyard of a residence with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest/torso. Officers rendered aid until medics arrived on the scene.
The victim was transported by Pittsburgh EMS in critical condition to an area hospital.
Cameras in the area saw a vehicle flee the scene shortly after the shooting. Violence Prevention Unit officers pursued the vehicle on Steuben Street, ultimately stopping it near the West End Circle. Inside that vehicle was an adult male who had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported from Steuben Street by Pittsburgh EMS in serious, but stable condition.
Also in that vehicle were three additional, uninjured, people. They were all transported to Pittsburgh Police Headquarters for questioning.
After the shooting, a juvenile male was seen fleeing the area on foot. Officers pursued that male and took him into custody. A firearm was recovered on him. He was transported to Pittsburgh Police Headquarters for questioning.
The situation remains fluid with information still coming in and there are no arrests at this time. Violent Crime Unit detectives are investigating and working to determine exactly what happened that led to the shooting.
The Mobile Crime Unit was called to process all evidence at the scene, including recovered shell casings as well as continuing to review all available video footage.
The investigation is ongoing.
