Detectives Respond to Fatal Moped Collision on Bloomfield Bridge

Published on March 27, 2025

Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched to the Bloomfield Bridge at approximately 6:30 a.m. for reports of a collision involving a moped.

Arriving responders located a 60-year-old male victim in traumatic arrest. He was transported by Pittsburgh EMS in critical condition to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The initial investigation indicates the driver lost control of his moped while travelling outbound on the bridge (towards Bigelow Boulevard). He then struck the center jersey barrier and was thrown over the divider onto the inbound lanes.

Collision Investigation Unit detectives were called to the scene to investigate.

In the upcoming weeks, the city’s Vision Zero Fatal Crash Response Team, which includes the Pittsburgh Police Collision Investigation Unit, will complete a site visit to evaluate potential crash factors. After the site visit, additional updates will be made available on the Vision Zero Working Group's Engage Page.
