Violence Prevention Unit Detectives Arrest One, Recover Two Firearms

Summary:

Just after 11:30 p.m. on June 1, 2024, Violence Prevention Unit detectives on proactive patrol in the Arlington neighborhood of Zone 3, observed five males walking inbound in the 2400 block of S.18th Street.

Detectives – in full uniform – verbally engaged with one of the males who was walking with an open liquor container. He refused to stop and speak with them when asked, dropped the liquor bottle, and ran off. After a brief foot pursuit, detectives caught up with him and recovered one firearm with an extended magazine and laser attachment from his waistband. A second firearm with a loaded magazine and laser attachment was recovered from a garbage can and two additional males from the group were detained.

Deandre Basking-Turner, 18, was arrested and charged with Carrying a Firearm without A License, Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot, Open Container, Possession, and Underage Drinking.

He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing in regard to the second firearm.
