Date: August 23, 2024
Incident Type: Shots fired
Location: Zone 1
Summary:

Just before 2 p.m., Pittsburgh Police responded to the 1100 block of Highwood Street for reports of shots fired.

Arriving units spoke with a longtime security guard at Kuhn's Market who stated he had escorted a male out of the store who was being verbally abusive to staff.

Once outside, the male got into his vehicle and the security guard told police he witnessed him manipulating a firearm under the seat of his car. The male then exited the vehicle and engaged in a verbal altercation with the security guard. The security guard, who feared the male was armed, drew his firearm. During a physical scuffle, the guard said the unidentified male got a grip on his firearm so he fired one round, causing the actor to release his grip.

The guard then holstered his gun and successfully fired his less lethal pepper gun at the male, who then fled the area in a light green Subaru hatchback. There was also a female passenger inside the car.

Officers searched the area, but did not locate the actor.

The Mobile Crime Unit processed evidence at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
