Police, Fire, EMS Respond to School Van Collision in Allegheny Center

Summary:

At approximately 7:15 a.m., Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were dispatched to West North Avenue and Arch Street in the Allegheny Center neighborhood for reports of a vehicle into pole collision.

Arriving responders located a school van that had collided with a utility pole. There were no children aboard the vehicle. The driver, a 67-year-old male, is suspected of having suffered a large heart attack.

He was unresponsive and entrapped in the vehicle. EMS Rescue crews were able to safely extricate the man and proceed with life-saving measures.

As he was being transported in critical condition, he went into cardiac arrest. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital a short time later.

No other injuries were reported.
