At approximately 3:30 a.m., Pittsburgh Police, EMS and Fire were dispatched to the Ninth Street Bridge for reports from witnesses who observed a male run from the Downtown side of the bridge, climb onto the railing, and jump into the Allegheny River.
A second male, a bystander, jumped into the water in an attempt to save him.
River Rescue responded to the scene and were able to retrieve the bystander safely from the water as EMS divers continued searching for the first person.
A short time later, divers recovered the body of a male. He was pronounced deceased just before 4 a.m.
Crime Scene Unit detectives were called to the scene. Violent Crime Unit detectives are investigating.
