City of Pittsburgh Hosts “Welcoming Corner” Cultural Performances Throughout December

Pittsburgh, PA – To celebrate the beauty, resilience, and cultural richness of Pittsburgh’s immigrant communities, and the welcoming spirit of our city, Mayor Ed Gainey and the Office of Immigrant & Refugee Affairs are hosting the "Welcoming Corner" in the lobby of the City-County Building throughout the month of December. Pittsburgh is home to musicians and artists from nearly every corner of the globe. This initiative brings that global presence to life, creating a festive and inviting atmosphere while highlighting the rich cultural diversity that brings our city together.

This week the Welcoming Corner featured the "Pittsburgh Xiaobo Waist Drum Dance Group". Founded in 2016, this community-based performance troupe presented a vibrant showcase of traditional Chinese arts, including waist drum dancing, Peking & Kun Qu opera, a Tai Chi demonstration, and a traditional Chinese tea ceremony.

Welcoming Corner performances take place from 12-1pm, Monday through Friday, throughout December, with additional dates still available. Members and friends of Pittsburgh's immigrant communities who are interested in performing are encouraged to sign up using the provided link
