Traffic will be shifted to one side of the bridge connecting Highland Park and Larimer

Pittsburgh, PA – Following routine inspection of the Meadow Street Bridge, the City of Pittsburgh has identified load limits on one side of the bridge, which connects Highland Park and Larimer over Negley Run Boulevard. In order to minimize the impact, the City will be shifting the lane configuration across the bridge to one side, maintaining two-lanes of traffic and sidewalk access.

Starting today, the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) and the Department of Public Works (DPW) will be installing jersey barriers establishing the new lane configuration. DOMI has begun working on a repair plan, but anticipates the restriction being in place for several months while plans are finalized, materials are procured, and repairs are implemented.

These findings are a direct result of improved inspection analysis process established by the City of Pittsburgh and PennDOT in the wake of the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse. The City’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure has also expanded its ability to respond to critical findings and creatively mitigate traffic impacts through its Bridge Maintenance Division and expanding partnership with DPW.
