Mayor Ravenstahl, in collaboration with community groups and stakeholders, is proud to announce that a new, community-designed play structure will be installed by volunteers in Allegheny Commons Park on Tuesday, June 19, dubbed as “Build Day.” The project is a collaboration with the City of Pittsburgh, the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, the PA League of Cities & Municipalities (PLCM), Central Northside Neighborhood Council, and national nonprofit KaBOOM! “Build Day,” is a community-wide celebration where 200+ volunteers will install a playground and complete other site improvement projects around the Park. There are many opportunities for community members to get involved. In addition to volunteering on Build Day, residents may join planning committees that are overseeing recruitment and registration; securing food for volunteers; coordinating service-learning projects for youth; ensuring safety and maintenance; and making the project as environmentally friendly as possible. This is the third straight year the PLCM will build a KaBOOM! playground in conjunction with their annual conference, which will convene civic leaders and elected officials in Pittsburgh this June. The project is supported by Mayor Ravenstahl’s servePGH initiative, which engages citizen volunteers to revitalize Pittsburgh neighborhoods. To sign up for a committee, register for Build Day, or receive more information, email servepgh@pittsburghpa.gov or call 412-255-2280. |
