Mayor Ravenstahl's servePGH
servePGH Launches New Opportunities to Apply for Now!
With the holiday season right around the corner, servePGH is excited to announce several exciting application releases: Snow Angels, Love Your Block and an AmeriCorps VISTA position!
Calling all Snow Angels! The time has come, again, to grab your shovels, pull on your boots and lend a helping hand. In winter 2011, Mayor Ravenstahl launched the Snow Angels program, a servePGH initiative, which matches able-bodied volunteers with elderly and physically disabled residents in their own neighborhoods. Once matched, Snow Angel volunteers have 24 hours after the snow stops falling to remove snow and slush from their designated resident’s walkways.
Last year, Mayor Ravenstahl’s call for Snow Angels and recipients was met with overwhelming enthusiasm. During the initial launch, 187 seniors and disabled residents in need were matched with 81 individual and group volunteers throughout the City. To sign up to volunteer as a Snow Angel, to receive Snow Angels services, or to learn more about the program, visit pittsburghpa.gov/snowangels or call 412-255-2280.

Applications are now available for the City’s Spring 2013 Love Your Block program. Local nonprofit organizations have until February 14, 2013 to apply. The block revitalization program will grant up to 30 organizations with a $1,000 Home Depot gift card to purchase supplies and equipment necessary to implement a neighborhood block revitalization project that mobilizes community volunteers. Project implementation must take place from April 27 to June 30, 2013.
For the spring 2013 round of projects, the City has extended the open application period to encourage more proposals from throughout the city. Special consideration will be given to projects that engage local veterans and veterans' organizations. Encouraged projects include veteran's monument beautification and projects that take place in neighborhoods with a high percentage of veteran population.
