Dom Costa announced his retirement today from his position as Pittsburgh Chief of Police citing recurring physical problems related to his gunshot injury of February 2002.
"It has been my honor and pleasure to serve the City of Pittsburgh and its citizens as a police chief and officer," said Costa. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl thanked Mr. Costa for his service, wished him well and for a full recovery from health problems obtained in the line of duty.
Mayor Ravenstahl appointed Assistant Chief Paul Donaldson as Acting Chief of Police until a replacement for Mr. Costa is named.
A list of qualified candidates will be compiled shortly, followed by a brief review and interview period and a decision on Mr. Costa's replacement.
