As you may be aware, the unemployment number for the City of Pittsburgh continues to hover around 7%. What's worse, when looking at the minority population in our City, the unemployment rate more than doubles. As an elected official and avid champion of quality of life issues, social advancement, and believer that all should have access to good family sustaining jobs, it pains me to not see more of our constituency working and being productive citizens within their communities.
With this being said, my office has partnered with the Office of State Representative Jake Wheatley, Jr., who shares the same views towards providing solution oriented results for the underserved in our constituencies. We are working to organize a full service City-wide resource and employment fair for individuals who are both underemployed and unemployed. The fair will take place 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at Point Park University, Student Activities Center, 5th Floor, located at 300 Wood Street in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 13, 2012.
In order to best serve our constituencies, we have partnered with the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Social and Urban Research to help us find out what the employment barriers of the community are that should be addressed at the fair on October 13th.
