Greetings,

I am pleased to inform you that the Steamfitters Local Union #449 Journeymen and Apprenticeship Training Committee are currently accepting applications for the 5-year Building Trades and Mechanical Equipment Service Apprenticeship Programs.  All applicants must appear in person at the Steamfitters Technology Center, 1459 Woodruff Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15220 to obtain and fill out an application.  

All applications will be accepted on Monday, December 12, 2011 through Saturday, December 17, 2011.  Weekday hours are between the hours of 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday hours are between 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM; application dress code is casual.

The qualifications for applicants to the Apprenticeship Training Programs are as follows:

  • An applicant must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the two week application period.
  • Applicants must have a valid PA driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • The applicant must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D. diploma at the time of the application, and bring transcript(s) when applying.
  • The applicant must be of good moral character and be physically able to do the work of the trade.
  • The applicant will be required to submit a test for substance abuse and complete a 40-hour orientation class if accepted.
  • Applicant must have $25.00 application fee payable by cash or money order, made payable to Steamfitters J.A.T.C. at the time of completing the application.

 

I am also pleased to inform you that the Greater Pennsylvania Heavy Highway and Railroad Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program are currently accepting applications for Carpenter Apprentices in their 2012 Apprenticeship Program.  Applications will be available every Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM from December 7, 2011 through March 28, 2012 at the Carpenters Training Center, 652 Ridge Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15205.  

All applications will be electronically completed at the Pittsburgh Training Center; applicants will then schedule a date to return for testing.  Please contact 412-262-1830 ext. 5 to schedule an appointment.

The qualifications for applicants to the Heavy Highway and Railroad Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program are as follows:

  • The applicant must be not less than 17 years of age.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the work of the Heavy Highway and Railroad Carpenter.
  • The applicant must be a citizen of the United States or a Legal Alien.
  • The applicant must have a high school diploma or GED, and furnish a transcript of high school courses and grades.
  • The applicant must submit a non-refundable processing fee of $25.00 (money order, check, debit card or charge card).
  • The applicant must have a valid driver's license and have dependable transportation.  They must be willing to travel from one job to another, regardless of the distance involved with the 33 county area.
