Register today for the 36th running of the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, which will take place on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, along a 6.2-mile course from Frick Park to Downtown Pittsburgh.
“The Great Race remains one of the City’s greatest events, attracting more than a quarter million participants over the past 35 years,” Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said. “While The Great Race was established in 1977 as a 10K ‘fun run’ by the late Mayor Richard S. Caliguiri, it has grown to include a 5K run/walk, running clinic, two-day exposition and children’s race. This variety of events allows individuals of all ages and fitness levels to take part in Pittsburgh’s fall fitness classic.”
According to Race Director Mike Radley, “The Great Race grows in popularity with each passing year, so our primary message remains ‘register early,’ especially since the 2013 Great Race will bring about a few changes in how we register runners. Complete details are posted on our website, so we encourage all runners and walkers to visit www.RunGreatRace.com to learn more.”
2013 Great Race registration overview:
“EARLY BIRD” DISCOUNT OFFERED TO FIRST 6,000 TO REGISTER
“Early Bird” pricing – $25 (or 2 for $40 discount) – will be available to the first 6,000 runners/walkers to register. Only the first 6,000 participants to register will receive the discount; all others will pay $30/person to register.
REGISTRATION CAP SET AT 15,500 RUNNERS/WALKERS
Starting in 2013, The Great Race will cap registration for each race individually:
· The 10K run will be capped at 10,000 runners
· The 5K run/fitness walk will be capped at 5,500 runners and walkers
“The Great Race sells out year after year, so don’t delay in reserving your spot at the start line,” said Radley. “Last year’s field of 15,000 runners and walkers set a new record for the race, and this year we’re expanding the number of participants but will place a cap of 15,500 runners and walkers for the Sept. 29 race.”
